In response to the growing need for highly qualified individuals equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in a rapidly advancing world, the Sabancı Group took action in 1994. Recognizing this pressing issue, they established a “world university” under the leadership of the Sabancı Foundation.
The establishment of Sabancı University, which stands as the Sabancı Group’s most comprehensive social responsibility project in education, began to take shape in the summer of 1995. During a search conference attended by 50 academics from 22 countries, as well as students and representatives from the private sector, the foundations for the university were laid. This conference marked the beginning of an extensive process that involved examining leading educational institutions in Turkey and around the globe, aiming to understand their successful practices and fundamental principles.
Instead of simply replicating existing universities or adopting a pre-existing template, a new and distinctive university model was envisioned and developed.
Sabancı University started enrolling students in 1999 and has since become a role model for numerous universities. It has successfully demonstrated a unique approach to education, setting an example for others to follow.
